The Friends of Alice Austen House

The Friends of Alice Austen House, Inc. serves to acquaint a diverse audience with the life and times of an exceptional documentary photographer - Alice Austen (1866-1952). Educational and cultural programs are presented to promote public knowledge and appreciation of Alice Austen's place in photographic, social and cultural history.

The Alice Austen House and Garden listed on the National Register of Historic Places and a New York City Landmark, is the restored Austen family home. Under a license agreement with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, the Friends of Alice Austen House operates and maintains the site as a museum for the research, collection, care and exhibition of photographs, objects and archival material. It presents exhibitions of the work of Alice Austen and other photographers, and sponsors programs to interpret the site itself; including its history and architecture, landscape and waterfront location.
