1-3PM  Matt-U has a strong background in live performance, and has majored in music both in the United States and in London.  Century Dance Complex: spearheaded by Rose Kingston, Executive Director for CDC.  Having fled war-torn Liberia as a child, Rose Kingston spent years in a refugee camp before being given asylum with her family in the United States.  Once here, she transmuted her suffering and childhood trauma into dance and for learning. Tina Thompson Dance Theater preforming ROBE is a reflective work of choreography that consists of 3 sections.

Starlight Concert

Staten Island Philharmonic presents the Sing Out Staten Island concert. The program will include salutes to all five branches of the military as well as a tribute to the 200th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, a picnic basket or snacks, and spend the evening watching the fireworks light up the sky as you listen to a fabulous performance of American patriotic and popular tunes. Free admission. Begins at 6 p.m.

Lori Belilove & The Isadora Duncan Dance Company will honor their namesake, revolutionary dancer Isadora Duncan, and Victorian rebel photographer Alice Austen, in a program of dances choreographed by Duncan, on the stunning grounds of Alice Austen House on Staten Island.

The Company and guest dancers will perform solos and group works from the Duncan repertory centered around themes of nature, a subject Duncan shared with Austen. With voice-over narrations and theatrical vignettes depicting the era, the program will unfold the life and art of the extraordinary dancer with sensational dancing, delighting audiences of all ages.

September 11, 2009The Alice Austen House Museum and the Staten Island Firefighters will host the annual Remembrance of September 11 in honor of the 343 brothers who lost their lives. The ceremony will be held on the front lawn, overlooking the Manhattan skyline from 5 – 9 p.m.

Donald Weber, born 1973 in Toronto, Canada. Presently residing in Russia, Don worked as an architect with Rem Koolhas’ Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, before becoming a photographer. He is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a World Press Photo Award, and the Lange-Taylor Documentary Prize with Larry Frolick, among other citations. He has exhibited widely and worked for international publications including The New York Times, Newsweek, Time, and Stern. Part of his Chernobyl work was included in a traveling exhibit on Capitol Hill in Washington and the United Nations in New York. He has been documenting daily life in post-Soviet countries since 2005, from the perspective of a skytalets, a traditional Russian wanderer.

Because active and involved communities are essential to vibrant parks and neighborhoods, and to a healthy city, Partnerships for Parks helps New Yorkers work together to make neighborhood parks thrive.  Come to our park help clean up the leaves and make a scarecrow!  Bring old clothes, work gloves and rakes.  (Some rakes, burlap sacks and hay will be supplied).

March 04, 2010  Flipping Pages: Every first and last Thursday of each month at 3:30PM  A story telling event for ages 4-7 years old; offering a calm and relaxing time.  Children will enjoy an illustrated story sitting on the front lawn of the Alice Austen House Museum “Clear Comfort” overlooking the Narrows.  If weather is not permitting, event will take place in the museum.  A short tour/art discussion to introduce your child to the museum and art making activity is included.  FREE!
